EnStream, a mobile payments joint-venture owned by Canada's three main operators, has launched a mobile money transfer and payments service that will work across all three mobile networks. The service - known as Zoompass - is available as a downloadable mobile application that links to a personal bank account or credit card. It is also accessible via PC or via mobile Internet. In a statement, the company noted that the operators - Bell, Rogers Wireless, and Telus - had "decided to collaborate and launch the Zoompass service together with the vision that a common standard and interoperability for mobile money transfers across all networks would result in unprecedented convenience for consumers."
Zoompass offers a range of real-time services, including 24/7 account management, money transfer, request money, balance check and transaction history. It also interfaces with the address book on select phones, allowing users to send or request money from their contact list. The service is also compatible with the Zoompass Prepaid MasterCard, issued by Peoples Trust, which enables the use of MasterCard's PayPass technology for contactless payments.
