Forum advances on voice over LTE issues

Unstrung reports that industry group the VoLGA (Voice over LTE via Generic Access) Forum has advanced efforts to introduce an alternative way to deliver voice services over future LTE networks. The group has published the second version of specifications for its circuit-switch-over-packet approach for voice services over LTE, meaning the group is closer to its goal of submitting its final set of specifications to the 3GPP standards body by the end of the year.
Unstrung notes that there are three options available to operators:
Circuit-switch-over-packet (supported by the VoLGA Forum);
Circuit-switch fallback (where the older 2G/3G networks are used for voice services); and
IMS technology.
